The Freddie Pring Memorial Fund

Sophie Hooper Pistol Shooter

In March 2020 we processed our first batch of applications for the fund , something that has actually given us huge sense of achievement along with many emotions .

We are hugely delighted and proud to announce Sophie Hooper as our first fully successful applicant benefitting from the communities effort supporting the fund .

Sophie has been shooting pistol since she was 10 years old. She joined Minehead rifle and pistol club after a few successful pony club events. She has represented Danesfield Middle School and more recently West Somerset College in the National Schools Pistol Championships, where she finished 3rd out of over 260 athletes.

After this great achievement Sophie was noticed by the England Academy squad coaches.

The money awarded to Sophie will be helping towards the costs of her accessing her offered place in the England Academy squad . The funding will help to support Sophie with all the training, travelling costs and equipment needed.

Last weekend she had her first training session with them. She throughly enjoyed the experience and is now really looking forward to the future. The squad are looking to select a team for the Commonwealth in India in 2022. Which Sophie could be apart of.

This is exactly what we intended when we set up the fund , enabling adults and children to be able to access to coaching that we can’t always get locally !

Well done Sophie we look forward to following your shooting journey .
